How much do I need?

Use these tables to work out how much you need.

Sand

length (ft) × width (ft) × depth (in) ÷ 265 = tonnes + waste

length (m) × width (m) × depth (m) × 1.6 = tonnes + waste

Gravel & Chippings

length (ft) × width (ft) × depth (in) ÷ 250 = tonnes + waste

length (m) × width (m) × depth (m) × 1.7 = tonnes + waste

Ballasts & Sub-Base

length (ft) × width (ft) × depth (in) ÷ 210 = tonnes + waste

length (m) × width (m) × depth (m) × 2.0 = tonnes + waste

Plastering

One tonne of sand plasters approximately 30m² of wall 20mm thick

Brick and Block Laying

One tonne of sand lays approximately:

1000 × 4½ × 9 × 3 inch Bricks

600 × 4 × 18 × 9 inch Solid Blocks

400 × 6 × 18 × 9 inch Solid Blocks

250 × 9 × 18 × 9 inch Solid Blocks
